October 8, 1932 - April 21, 2024

In Loving Memory ~

It is with great sadness that we, the family of Richard Hawksworth, announce his passing. Dick went to the arms of our Lord on April 21st, 2024, due to complications from a recent stroke.

Dick was born on October 8th, 1932, in Cameo, Saskatchewan and has lived in Port Alberni since 1946.

He is survived by his sons, Doug (Gail), Bob, and Floyd (Brenda) as well as his long-time friend, Ana. He is also survived by grandchildren, Sharon, Kenny, Jordan, and Janessa (David); great granddaughters, Madison (Stephen) and Esther and numerous nieces & nephews.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Janet Hawksworth (Anderson) who passed away on March 20th, 1984; parents Alvina & Ernest Hawksworth; sister, Agnes Sailor, and brothers, Joe and Frank Hawksworth.

Until his stroke, Dick remained a very active, kind, and a giving participant in our local community. In the past 19 years, he could often be seen in the city and rural areas of our valley on his pedal bike collecting discarded recyclables, which in turn he donated all profits to one of his favourite charities "The Call of the Poor".

Dick was a proud longshoreman of thirty years who enjoyed a lengthy retirement. He will be remembered for his service to local sports as a hockey referee, a baseball umpire, and in his earlier years an avid boxer. Dick enjoyed watching his favourite baseball team the Blue Jays play as well as spending time in his backyard birdwatching.

Never afraid to own his opinion, Dick was a very determined, independent, and passionate person who had an enormous sense of right and wrong. He was also the best Dad & Grandfather ever and he will be so deeply missed.

The Hawksworth family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at VGH, NRGH & WCGH for their compassionate care and kindness throughout Dick's recent illness.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Holy Family Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church at 4731 Burke Road in Port Alberni, on Friday, May 10th with a burial in AVMG and reception at Holy Family to follow.
