SPECIAL TO THE NEWS

The weather has been a factor for the past couple of weeks of golfing—both good and bad—for the Sunday men’s crew.

During the stableford event held at the Alberni Golf Course on Sunday, April 28, poor weather saw only 39 players signed up. It was a different scenario on May 5, as 70 golfers teed up for the four-man waltz. The rain held off until the final three holes.

Three-way tie for April 28 stableford

This is the way they finished in the stableford competition: Chad Wutke, Colton Buffie and Peter Mugleston all had 20 points. Next with 19 points were Craig Acland, Jay Johnson and Mike Doucette. Then came Jason Pley (18 points), James Haggard and Ted Stewart (17 points), Dave Mann (16) and Scott Staley and Chris Bird (15 points). Finally with 14 points was Blake Frechette and Fred Fredrickson.

All ties were settled by retrogression.

The closest to the pin winners were James Haggard on No. 2 and 17, Joe Henri on No. 4 and Colton Buffie on No. 13. The Charity Closest to the Pin on No. 7 went to Peter Mugleston, who collected $58.50. Ron Scholte won $142 for the only birdie on No. 4. All prizes may be picked up from the pro shop.

Many thanks to Dean Johnson and staff of Creekers Liquor Store for their contribution to the day.

Foursome waltzes to victory with 125 points

Sunday, May 5 was the four-man waltz event, sponsored by Schill Insurance.

The winning team with 125 was the foursome of Steve Pointon, Bill Barrett, Phil Anker and Dave Mann.

Then came Cal Davies, Tyler Ibsen, Wayne Johnstone and Trevor Holloway with 129, followed by Mike Savard, Andre Savard, Murry Hawkeness and Brandon Wells with 130. Cody Breuker, James Haggard, Darcy Haggard and Troy Rota also had 130, and finished fifth by retrogression.

Next Sunday, May 12 is an open day with the best gross and best net up for grabs. Play your own ball: every man for himself. The cost for the day will be $15, which includes four closest to the pins, deuce pot and the Charity Closest to the Pin on No. 7. Please book your own time in your own group starting at 8 a.m. and going until 10 a.m. As an extra bonus there will be five draw prizes compliments of Boomerangs Café.

Don’t forget guys, you must putt out on every hole. Starting next Sunday we are playing the ball down: that is, do not improve your lie.
