Alberni red, white and blue is a simple as one and two

The competition was stiff at the Port Boat House red, white and blue golf event in Alberni.

It was a cloudy cool morning for the Men’s Club on Sunday, with 72 players taking part in the Port Boat House red, white & blue event.

This competition is  one of the most popular events of the season. Thanks to our sponsors, Mike, and Dave of The Port Boat House for providing us with some excellent prizes

Congratulations go out to Brian Tall, who captured top spot in his first Men’s Club event of the year, carding a gross 75.

Tall was followed by Colin Hamilton, Cory Neilson, Vito Caldarulo, Steve Acland, Steve White and Dennis Debolt. Winning net honours were Al Wright, Gary Korven, Paul Saulnier, Ron Clark, Bill Lekich, Mel Trelvik, Jack Sparks, Sam Parhar, Darrell Van Os, Livio Tedesco, Tyler Ibsen, Vic Carlton and Cal Davies.

In the ball sweep Colin Hamilton shot 76 to win three balls, Cory Nielsen carded 77 taking home two balls, Steve Acland and Dennis Debolt each won one ball for shooting 78 and 79 respectively.

On the net side, Gary Korven came in with 67 to win three balls, Ron Clark shot 70 winning two balls while Lyman Jardin, Livio Tedesco and Darrell Van Os all shot 72 taking home one ball each.

Closet to the pin winners were Vito Caldarulo on No.2 and Ron Clark on No.4. Pocketing $44 for the Charity closet to the pin, Tyler Ibsen for his long drive on No. 5, Brian Tall for his second shot on No. 6, Gord Cutting, on No.13 and Keith Gauthier on No. 17. Bob Matlock, Gerry Fagan and Phil Anker won three draws of $50 gift certificates compliments of The Port Boat House.

The Shot of the Week goes to Bruce Browne.

On Wednesday June 8 Browne eagled No. 16 putting his second shot in the hole from 200 yards out. Way to go Bruce.

This coming Monday, June 20, is the next Stableford competition. There will be a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The early birds who wish to enter the event may tee off earlier.

If you compile 36 points which is right around your handicap you will automatically win $35 in club money.  The more points you rack up the more you can win. For those who may be off their game be sure to turn your score cards in as there will be several draws.

There will also be closest to the pin prizes of sleeves of balls, #2 will be for men with Handicap of 15 or higher, #4 will be for all the women, #13 for men with handicaps lower than 15 and #17 will be for all competitors. Please enter in the Pro Shop in your own foursome or as a single and you will be placed in a group.

The Men’s Club will be cancelled next Sunday due to the West Coast Amateur taking place. There still are plenty of spots open for next weekends tournament, see Bruce or Brian to register for that event.
