Port Alberni Lawn Bowling Club offers chance to try out new sport

Two more open houses are scheduled for May at the clubhouse

Several students from Alberni District Secondary School learned the fine art of lawn bowling at an open house May 1 at the Port Alberni Lawn Bowling Club. It was the first of four open houses scheduled to kick off the 2024 season.

Club coach Robin Forrest introduced Tisha Titian, Karen McGregor and Isabella Noddin to the sport, helping them learn to throw bowls and what to expect. Lawn bowls don’t roll straight, creating opportunities for strategies much like curlers learn with curling rocks.

Two more open houses will take place on Saturday, May 11 from 1-3 p.m. and Saturday, May 18 from 1-3 p.m.

The Port Alberni Lawn Bowling Club is located at 4255 Wallace Street, tucked away between Echo Centre and the rear of Alberni District Secondary School. It is accessible off of Wood Avenue.
