The Port Alberni Ladies Basketball League play-off action began Monday night at ADSS with second seed Dave Ralla’s Ballerz taking on third seed Lace It Up and first seed Mace Electric Shockers taking on fourth seed Canadian Tire Retreads.

With a four way tie for first place at the end of the regular season, games were expected to be close.

In the opening game, the score went back and forth between Lace It Up and Dave Ralla’s Ballerz numerous times, with the Ballerz leading at halftime 25-22.

The teams continued rallying in the second half and were tied at the end of the regular play 38-38, putting the game into overtime.

During overtime, Lace It Up held the lead 40-39 with seconds on the clock, and Ballerz forward Diane Haley was able to draw the foul as the buzzer sounded, giving her the opportunity to win the game with two free throws.

Haley sunk the first shot to tie the game, but missed the second, putting the game into double overtime.

Both teams continued to play hard, but it was Lace It Up that ended up taking the win 43-41, securing them a place in the finals next week.

The second game of the evening was close as well, with Canadian Tire Retreads and Mace Electric Shockers stealing the lead from each other over and over again.

The Shockers were able to keep their halftime lead however and beat the Retreads 40-33.

The season will wrap up next week with the Ballerz and the Retreads playing next Monday at 5:30pm for third and fourth place.

Lace It Up and the Shockers will compete in the championship game at 6:30 p.m.  Stop by the ADSS gym to check out the action
